Isn't this just simple pigeonhole? If the people are nodes and we add a directed edge from $ A$ to $ B$ if $ A$ likes $ B$, there are $ \binom{16}{2}=120$ pairs of people and $ 16*8=128$ directed edges, so two edges must come from the same pair . . .
